Mai Otome 7

A young Mashiro uses her Princess powers to buy dolls, change the flowers in the garden and even ride on Sakomizu like a horse (I think that explains why he became so fat later on). While hiding under a table, she heards two servants talking about how she might not be the real princess. Then she was introduced to Nagi who called her the fake princess. Back to the present, Arika writes about how the school spends their weekends by either training, studying, helping out teachers, or cleaning out the Pearl's rooms. Currently, Arika is working part-time rebuilding the castle which Nao mention the job in the first place. Mashiro decides to stop by at the castle to see the progress of the construction and notices Arika. She asks the boss about Arika which he said that she's a hard worker and then Mashiro said to get up the hard work. The boss gave a worker an envelop which contain a black piece of paper and runs off as Arika appears in front of the boss. Mashiro remembers the time that Nagi called her a fake princess which made her to remodel the castle completely which Arika got mad at her. After saying "You really called yourself a queen" to Mashiro, Arika got slapped by her which she runs away afterwards. Sergey tells Arika about the fake princess rumor about Mashiro along with the rebellion 14 years ago which the king and queen were killed. At that time, they were searching for the princess and almost gave up when the secretary found Mashiro and saying that she was the princess. The only evidence to that claim was the statement of a felon which the secretary captured but the secretary also died as well. Nagi talks to Mashiro and tries to ask for marriage. Arika looks at the paintings and notices a girl with a blue gemstone for an earring. Mashiro backs away from Nagi as he forces himself on her and almost kisses her when Arika appeared. Nagi back away from Mashiro and leaves the room as Arika tends to Mashiro. She helps Mashiro to her feet and suddenly, Mikoto jumps on her which forces them into a secret door which the worker from earlier sees it and has a Slave Gem.

Aoi and Sakomizu continues to search for Mashiro when Nagi tells them that she was in the throne room. Mashiro and Arika are walking through a bunch of ruins from the 12 Kingdom Wars era. The war was stopped because of the first Otome, Mashiro which was a diamond (who maybe Fumi). Arika tries to cheer up Mashiro by telling her that she didn't know her real parents. They find an old object which contain an organ when Arika got near it. Mashiro played a note on the organ which causes their gems to burst along breaking the glass near the castle and the sound could be hear from the school. It also sent a beam of purple light through the sky which a girl in the desert notices (who looks like Miyu). A guy who's features cannot be seen and covered by a red aura tells Arika and Mashiro that in order to receive the power of the Harmoneal that they need a song, a conductor, and a protector. The guy disappears and the organ is hidden again which made the worker to summon his Slave. Arika's necklace managed to create a barrier to protect them and repels the Slave back along with summoning two gems. Arika puts one gem on Mashiro's ring and the other on her earring which they made a contract. Arika summons the power of the Blue Sky Sapphire which she manages to throw the monster with her massive strength. She tries to run at the monster but she gets caught up with unable to fly at first. She kicks the monster to only to get hit by the monster which also affects Mashiro as well. She summons her weapon and uses the Bolt from the Blue attack to destroy the Slave. Mashiro tells Arika to keep the contract a secret along with finding a way to nullify the contract.

This episode had a lot of things reveal like Mashiro knowing that she could be the fake princess along with the basis of the rumor. It seems that Nagi wants to marry Mashiro but it's still unknown about his intentions to marry her. Arika finds the Blue Sky Sapphire gems in her necklace which are pretty powerful. Also, there's the whole deal with the Harmoneal which requires a song, conductor, and protector. I think the protector is probably Miyu and the conductor could be Alyssia but there hasn't been any sign of her so far. Then there was the guy who appear briefly who looks like Takumi but I don't know about it. One more thing, it seems to be that Fumi was the first Otome who used the power of the Mashiro diamond to end the 12 Kingdom Wars. There seem be more questions than answers at this point. The next episode will have Arika and Mashiro to cover up their earring and ring as Miyu makes her move. If episode 8 of Otome was like episode 8 of Hime, then things will be more interesting.

School has started without Rin and Sia and Asa wants to kill Rin because he made her to carry everything. Rin stops Kikyou's fun when he begins to worry about being late to class but she forces him to go out with her on a date by calling him a pervert after making him pull her skirt. After avoiding the police, Rin still wants to go to class but Kikyou takes him to a movie. Rin asks what wrong with Sia but she avoids the question. While at school, Kaede asks Asa if she knew where Rin was but she didn't know and Kareha brings up the possibility that Rin could have been kidnapped. Kaede leaves the school while Rin and Kikyou go out to various places like a cafe and a jewelry store. Then they go a clothes store where Kikyou tries on a sexy, red dress while Rin is still worried about Asa and school. She shows him her breasts after he said that he was still worried about things. While walking near the river, Rin wanted to go grocery shopping but Kikyou wanted to do more things until nightfall. He begins to question if Sia was really ok or not which made Kikyou to try to kiss Rin but he pulls away. Kikyou tries to run away but Rin grabs her only to make her run away again. Rin comes her with the police in her house along with Kaede who thought Rin was kidnapped.

Sia's father is hungry once again and thought Sia would have some food but she didn't not and collasped because of lack of food. Sia and Kikyou begin to argue with each other once she enters her bedroom. Sia is mad at Kikyou for her forceful methods on Rin but Kikyou just want to make Sia happy by helping her to relay her feelings for Rin. Kikyou decides to give back control to Sia and disappears from Sia forever. The next day, Sia doesn't go near Rin and the others on her way from school while they talked about Rin's ordeal with the police. After class, Sia takes Rin to a flower garden which she talks about Kikyou. She tells him that Kikyou was her twin sister that her mother gave up during pregnancy. During birth, Sia made a promise to Kikyou that she would stay with her forever which the result is that Sia had two personalities. Sia realized that Kikyou wanted Sia to be happy regardless if she was alone or not. She also realized that Rin has someone that he loves but she feels better to get that off her chest and tells him that he could have mulitple wives in Heaven.

It seems that Kikyou is gone forever and would have been interesting if she was still around for a couple more episodes but I guess that's not going to happen. Sia has decided to try her best as herself without the help of Kikyou just like Nerine without the assistance of Licorice within her. What's with the princesses of Heaven and Hell having a second side to them? It makes you wonder about the mental health of the entire family. It seems that the next episode will have Rin been confronted by everyone on who the person that he likes.

Monica was helping Subawara with making a horse when Kawachi wanted them to leave since they were distracting him with their lovely antics. While walking in the city, Kawachi meets up with Kuro-yan who wants him to work on his bread for the match which made Kawachi depressed. Kawachi lays on his bead and thinks about that he has no way of winning right now when the Manager, Tsukino, Kanmuri, and Kinoshita appear in his room. The Manager told him that he invited his family to the finals which Kawachi didn't want as he doesn't want them to see him lose. Kanmuri gave Kawachi the box which he removes the bottom to reveal a scroll which contain the name of Kawachi's father, Kawachi Kyoutarou. Kanmuri tells Kawachi about how his father kept trying every year to make it in Pantasia even though he got rejected many times. He continues to say that he shouldn't disappoint his father before leaving the room. Then Kawachi receives some divine wisdom from his dead father which he tells him to follow his dream with everything he has. The Manager says that Kawachi is at his strongest when he's cornered which Kanmuri added that it was worth it to shut down the store suddenly. Azuma comes into the room and sees that Kawachi is trying to make a mold for his bread along with the start of a revolution which Azuma misunderstands as former Prime Minister of Japan, Kakuei. Kawachi throws Azuma out and into the company of the Manager and others. While Kawachi was making his mold, he realized that he lost his aim after becoming an employee of Pantasia's Main Branch and just wanted to be cool like his father. He remembers his father's dream to make a dinner bread that would be healthy and delicious to eat.

One day before the finals, Kawachi begins to taste his bread which the crust is good but not the dough part with the others watching. Kawachi is using datten soba which usually tastes bad but he has no success with it. Tsukino wanted the Manager to give him advice but he refuses as he wanted to see Kawachi's strength. Later in the day, the Manager picks up Kawachi and insults him along with some hidden advice about how he managed to figure out the problem with making bread with tea leaves. Kawachi kicks out the Manager and realizes how to solve the problem with the bread by adding tea to the flour instead of tea leaves. The next day, Kawachi has his family watching him even though they weren't energitic because of lack of people while Spencer has lots of his family members watching him. Kawachi spill his flour on the floor because of the excitement and pours liquid dattan sobayu into his dough. Monica tells Subawara that Spencer was spending so much time on training Monica that he didn't have time to think up a bread for the semifinals. Meanwhile, Spencer has his dough wrapped around a bamboo pole which looks like a cannon and mentions that this is the ultimate slow food. Slow food is a movement which was to ensure that traditional food wasn't wiped out by fast food and junk food. Spencer is going to bake his dough over an open fire along with a spice which Pierrot mentions it was a terrible ingredient. Spencer found this while thinking up ways to beat Azuma and calls his cannon, Alexandria. Kawachi reveals that he has more than dattan soba with special croissant dough.

Overall, this episode follows the basic storyline of the manga but some things were rearranged or omitted. Originally, the box that Kanmuri had contain three things under the fake bottom which basically were notes telling him to take a poison that was also in the box. Kawachi decided to not take the poison which rolls under the bed and hits Kanmuri which at that point everyone show themselves from under the bed and the closet. Also, the Manager and the others were much harsher on Kawachi during their talk along with that the store was doing much worse as St. Pierre's Main Branch began to sell Ice Bread (read Vol. 12 Chapter 103 for that one) which cause them to take out a loan to go to Monaco. The part when Monica mentions about Spencer's true strength occured in a different scene when Monica created her own version of Subawara's crown. There was a part with Subawara went to Kawachi and calls him NamaHage (Bald Demon) which he tells Monica to tell Spencer about that. Monica and Spencer had another scene which Spencer tells her about Kawachi's true strength and that he bringing out Alexendria. The final thing they left out was Azuma misunderstanding the slow food movement as slow "poo". It wasn't necessary Azuma misunderstanding the word made it so funny but the Manager conversation to Tsukino about it was so funny. The next episode is an hour long special which going to be very interesting and fun to watch as I get to see the reaction I wanted to see the most along with Pierrot's visit to Heaven. Let the revolution begin.

Yakitate Japan 46

Subawara reveals his bread which appears to be a burned crown until he slices it to reveal a shiny gold crown with fruit as jewels. Kuro-yan explains that Subawara need a mold for his bread because of the pane di oro dough is goopy and used the croissant dough inside of the mold to make sure that the pane di oro won't turn brown and retain its shape. Then he uses chocolate to create a shadow effect on the fruit. Pierrot was about to begin judging when Monica insisted that he tasted Subawara's bread first because she has something up her sleeve. Pierrot tastes Subawara's bread first and trap himself in a box. Kawachi thinks it has to do with Pandora's Box which both Subawara and Monica open the box to reveal a bunch of Chinese cabbages who attack everyone in the room. Kuro-yan tells Subawara to look into the box and finds a giant-sized burdock root.

The burdock root reveals to be Pierrot and manages to put the cabbages back into the box. Pierrot manages that he used honey to make the fruit shiny which he took from a German technique that has them put their fruits in jars of honey to preserve them and to make the flavor and texture richer. Monica never realize Subawara's technique even though she had them as a tradition in Germany. Pierrot looks Monica's bread and notices that her flower has blossomed. The flower blossomed because the heat and gravity along with the technique requires very high skill. Pierrot tasted the bread which made him cry and calling the police to turn himself for agitating the Chinese cabbages. Kuro-yan tells Monica and Subawara to visit Pierrot in jail because he won't be getting out any time soon. Pierrot tells them that Subawara lost because of the five layered bread which was glued together by candy along with that the bread won't ever get bored of the bread because of the different tastes of the rye bread. Monica tells Subawara that the five layered bread was from her mother. Subawara wanted to shake her hand but she refuse to do so as she didn't want to him see her burned hands but he thought of them to be beautiful.

This episode ends with Team Japan losing the first match to Monica's candy flower and five layered bread. Now it's the time for the moment that Kawachi fans have been waiting for as he battles with Spencer along with a grand reaction by Pierrot (I hoped they don't alter the reaction though). The next episode will have Kawachi preparing for his match along with some old characters making a return appearance into the spotlight.

Erementar Gerad Review

A quick recap of the plot: a Sky Pirate named Coud accidently opens a coffin and removes a seal that awakens an Eden Raid named Reverie Metherlance or Ren for short. She hates humans in general but after a group of soldiers try to kidnap her, she was forced to react with Coud which she becomes a weapon of great power. Coud and Ren are joined by Cisqua, Rowan, and Kuea who are three members of Arcaile which is a group that protects Eden Raids. They go on a quest to the Garden of Eden which a haven for Eden Raids.

The animation quality was great in the beginning but it kind of went down towards the last few episodes. The music was really good with Yuki Kajiura composing and really made the scenes. Now let's get into the plot and characters. The overall plot was pretty basic with them heading towards the Garden of Eden encountering people along the way including the Chaos Choir. There was so much potential with the Eden Raids' backstory but it was wasted. Coud and Ren didn't have much depth as characters along with Rowan and Kuea who they had no character development or even an episode about their past. Cisqua has to be my favorite character in the entire series as she appeared first as cocky and money-hoarding but as the series goes on, she reveals a more serious side and becomes a better leader than she was in the beginning. Other characters like Wolx had their moments and such as well. Then there is the Chaos Choir who were the main villians in the series. For some reason, they were weak as villians even though their means to their goals were pretty evil. The end of the series was pretty happy and such but it does allow for another season though.

Overall, this series could have been better with deeper characters and backstory but it was a fun ride though. I give Erementar Gerad a 3 out of 5.
