400th Post and Best of 2005

I guess I should join the bandwagon with every other blogger but I timed it with my 400th post. Unlike some other bloggers, the series mentioned here will be only limited to series that started in 2005 not in 2004 where it ended in 2005. With that out of the way, let's begin with the awards.

That's a pretty good selection IMHO, I feel very close to your verdicts in many categories.

Is Law of the Ueki really that good? If so, I guess I should give it a try after all...

Aw, I'm sad that you didn't like Eureka 7. I thought it was a bit slow at first, but it grew on me. Not bad choices, though.

Mentar, what makes Ueki so good that it's actually creative. Instead of the typical powers like fire breath or laser eyes, you get powers like projecting your voice on a wall or use line drawings as warp tunnels.

Usually, I dislike the main male character because they have that stupid quality in them but I actually like Ueki even though he's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. So that's why he's my top pick of 2005 because he overcame that annoyance of mine and became likable.

As for Eureka Seven, it didn't work for me. I hated all the characters especially Renton and the whole "mecha on boards" is just a stupid idea.

Not a bad list, although I can never agree with you on your verdict on Eureka 7. Even if you couldn't get past the concept, and didn't like the characters, the show had undeniabley good music, and animation, which is a lot more than you can say for other series. I agree with your choice of Amaenaide Yo! though.

Also, Pani Poni Dash! is a good choice, for comedy series.

Eureka Seven is one of the years worst? I think you must have banged your head with your keyboard one too many times. E7 is amazing

I would highly disagree with Eureka 7 being a bad series, in fact, after just 24 episodes it is better than the 26 episodes of Tsubasa Chronicle. The boards are a creative change from the overpowered killing machines you come to expect from mecha series. Just hang loose bro.

As for Ah! My Goddess, you are just plain wrong. It is like saying the Gundam SEED series is a remake of the Gundam SEED movies. Oh! My Goddess is an OVA lightly based on the manga, while Ah! My Goddess is closer to the manga and covers a different story plot.

I still stand by my statement about Eureka Seven. It's pretty crap with ugly characters just like the Karas OVA series.

I don't agreed with your point about Ah! My Goddess. It's a remake in my eyes. Also, Gundam Seed TV came first before the movies.

Basically, I don't really care if you guys think I'm insane with my Eureka 7 choice. I didn't like it and nobody will make me give it a second chance.

Well, just from the first few episodes, I would agree with you. However, if you had bothered to watch a few more episodes, you'll realize that this series has a very well planned storyline. Please don't bash it just because of the first few episodes.

Look at least I don't post as anonymous on other people's blogs if I would say something that rude. You don't give any other reasons why I suck and such. If you're going to insult me, do it with pride and don't hide yourself.

Yes u do suck, Eureka seven is the bomb. A series that actually interest me, and the story in unpredictable, not like thos other ones( i have 150 series of anime and growing, so i know what im talking about. I love the romance, and Renton is a great character, he reminds me of the main male character in NEG. If your an anime fan, u should love this anime. If u pick this as the worst u don't have a taste in anime.

Kudos for a very well thought out list that I agree with almost entirely.

Although like a couple other people I dont agree with Eureka Seven. It is really slow in the first but about episode 22 it starts to really pick out. It also has some really great character dynamics especially between Renton and Eureka. I just watched all 50 episodes (japanese) in the last 4 days and it has become one of my favorite series to date. Give it a chance it really does start to stick on you.

Well other than that great list.

Great list Phoenix, I agree with pretty much all of your selections.

As for Eureka, I watched the series and while I'm not sure it's one of the worst of 2005, I definitely think it's over-rated. BONES put out some top-notch animation as always, and I loved Renton and Eureka. But, the supporting cast seemed too one-dimensional. And while the Mech-suits reffing is an original idea, I don't quite see it as original and good. Also, while I did get into the show around episode 20ish, and suggest that Phoenix try it out again, I don't blame him for deciding not to - telling someone to watch a show with the promise that it'll get good one and a half seasons into it, is kinda ridiculous imo.

Well I myself can't really agree w/you on Psalms of Planets Eureka Seven but I respect your position on it such as it is your opinion.

Just out of curiosity friend, did you watch the whole series? Like it has been said before the beginning was kind of slow but the development and concept of the story was phenomenal, in my opinion. I thought everything fit extremely well together and the series ended quite well. Music was awesome, and while some of the animation could have been better, I think that the special effects more than made up for it. In addition the complex set up of montage and sequences in the overall composition of the series was also higher than the usual Anime or even Hollywood movie for that matter. In fact there was some usage of visual angles that I haven't seen in my 12 years of Video Production/Animation.

Each is entitled to there own opinion though.

    Best of luck,

    Lucky333
