Trinity Blood 24 and Review

The final episode of Trinity Blood has the Vactian trying to stop the Orden's ship from destroying Londinium while a revived Abel faces off against Cain in a climatic final battle. Now, this episode seems to bring more questions than answers as you have an open-ended ending. When I watch the scenes of Abel and Cain's past, it just created more questions which I'm not going to say since I'm not going to spoil it. I really wished there was more episodes since they need to explain some things about the characters.

The character development of Trinity Blood is just plain erratic. Abel the main character gets shafted at the second half of the series as Esther, the Sister who turns Queen takes over the show. I know I mention at some point that Esther should be more involved in the series but I never imagined that she would forced Abel to be some secondary character who just saves her everytime. She was really useless as she doesn't help much (unless you count that whole thing with Ion helping) and even causes the "death" of Abel. The whole Queen of Albion thing was just sudden and probably an attempt to give Esther a new direction and actually useful. Speaking of unexpected direction, Ion at the ending does something odd and sudden which the reason for it is rather unknown of it. I really wish that Abel, Catherina, Sword Dancer, Ast, Seth, and Cain would gotten more character development but it was wasted on Esther and Ion. As for the Orden itself, they didn't really portray their motativations for doing the things that they did. Even though people called them the enemy of the world, the reason why for calling them that is rather unknown besides they wanted to launch some rocket. Was it to kill everyone on Earth or go to some planet or thing? Who knows because I don't? The animation and music was good overall which I liked the OP and really loved the ED song.

Overall, Trinity Blood had great potential to be a great series but it fell on its own face with its inconsistent plot line and not spreading the character development love. The ending of the series is opened to another season but with the death of the author of the manga, I doubt that will happen. With its shortcomings, it's a decent series with some good action scenes. I give Trinity Blood a 3 out of 5.

    Some comments:

Esther is as protagonist as Abel in the novels. She just appears on the second arc (Reborn on Mars, most of the pre-Ion episodes except 3-5 are based in Rage Against the Moons years before Esther appears) so obviously she'll be there as important.

Now, novels (not manga, I find the shoujo manga adaption even MORE Esther centric *sighs*) do develop all characters smoothly (everyone have at least two or more short stories focused on them. Specially Caterina and Tres). My favorite character in the novels is Caterina Sforza, she's so intelligent, strong (after all she held off Cain's attempts of power for over a decade along with her brother's war ones. That was before Esther appeared and uh... sort of triggered more problems like WAR) and yet fragile in her health and emotions (being in love with Abel, makes her act irrational sometimes).

The Rozen Kreuz Order hasn't got a 'goal' All members have their own agenda united under a same motto. Isaak's goals are unknown to date (I think he's using Cain fro something). Cain wants to destroy every lifeform (well, Kreznik 01 wants, you see, the Nanomachines took over Cain's body. This is why I went headdesk when Abel went 100% kreznik, he'll NEVER do that). Dietrich (who isn't killed in the novels yet) was a sociopath who worshipped Cain since a young boy but recently... I won't spoil if you read the novels. There are other members like Radu who doesn't want the destruction of the Empire, etc. Many members were left out: Helga, for instance, the ice witch, the werewolf, the Neuman siblings, etc.

The two most recent members of the Rozen Kreuz actually joined to destroy the Orden. Hint, they are good guys. ;)

Btw, the Mangaka is alive so is the illustrator of the novels, the one who died was the author of the novels. :/ He left some notes about final events but not the proper ending.

So Trinity Blood has novels, manga, and a TV series? And who's Mangaka? If the novelist died...so this anime is based on the novels or the manga? Does the novels answer all the questions? Like why abel is so mad at cain, why they were made, who that woman that seems to be the wife of abel is? Why did Abel went from Contra Mundi to being a father? And you sorta hinted that Cain was not originally a bad guy. I have a lot more questions but...so do the novels answer them?

Trinity Blood was originally a novel, but it was made to an anime and a manga. The anime and manga are not directly connected to each other; but are both loosely based on the novel. Personally, despite the fact that the manga is much more obivously 'shojo,' it is close to the original novel than the anime, and covers a lot more characters in-depth. The novel was never completed as the orignal novelist died, so even though there were a lot of questions left unanwered, he did leave scrap notes on what he was planning. It's all up to the new author, a friend of his, now.
